How to add First Responders
You can set up external responders in E3 so they can receive and act on alerts without checking in manually. There are a few ways to do this — here’s a quick guide to each method.
Option 1: Use the “Does Not Require User Status” Setting
When creating or editing a user role for first responder, you’ll see an option called “Does not require user status.”
- Check this box to let responders skip the normal check-in process during an active alert.
- This allows them to respond immediately without verifying their status.

Approach 1: Add Responders to Existing Groups
You can create a user role called Responder for your location and assign all members who have the “Does not require user status” permission.
- These responders will receive alerts for both internal and external incidents.
- They can also send alerts to your locations when needed.

Approach 2: Create Group-to-Group External Relations
If you prefer to keep responders separate:
- Create a sub-group (for example, “Country Police”) for users with the “Does not require user status” permission.
- Set up an external relation between that sub-group and your location’s group.
This setup means:
- Responders only get external alerts (not internal ones).
- They can receive alerts, but cannot send them to the location.
Approach 3: Hybrid Setup
This approach combines the benefits of the first two:
- Create a dedicated responder group and connect it to your location (as in Approach 2).
- Add key personnel — like School Resource Officers (SROs) — directly as members of each location.
This way:
- SROs get both internal and external alerts.
- They can reverse alert a location or escalate an internal alert, which also notifies the external responder group.
Note:
- Responders will only appear in E3 during an active alert.
- If there’s an external alert, the system will automatically include and display the relevant responders.
- Responders can receive alerts by default.
- To send alerts to a location, they must be added as members of that location.
