How to add First Responders

Learn how to add First responders to the E3 app so they alerted during emergencies.

This question refers to setting up the external responders in E3 so that they can respond to an alert without having to check themselves in. There are a number of methods to do that. Let us take a look at each one.

Firstly, while creating a user role, there is an option named “Does not require user status”. Marking this checkbox allows the user to bypass the check in questions in case of an active alert. You can read about setting up a user role in detail in the Editing and Creating User Roles and Permissions article.

Approach 1: Adding Users to Existing Groups

Using this approach, you can create a user role named “Responder” for your location and add all members with the “Does not Require User Status” permission in it.

Doing so will notify first responders for both Internal and External alerts, as well as enable them to send alerts to the locations. You can read in detail about how members are added by referring to the How to add members to an existing group? article.

Approach 2: Create Group-to-Group External Relations

In this approach,  you can create a separate sub-group for the members having the “Does not Require User Status” permission and name the sub-group “Country Police”. You can read about this in the How to Create a Sub-Group? article.

Once this is done, create an external relation between this sub-group and the one for your location. This can be read in detail by visiting the How to View Group Relations? article.

Doing so will only notify our responders for external alerts and NOT internal. Also, this option does not allow first responders to send alerts to the school(s), but only receive them.

Approach 3: Hybrid Approach

Create a new separate group for responders and the external relation(s) to the location like explained in the approach 2.

After that, add a couple key responders that are generally over the locations, like an SRO, as a member of each of the locations.

This option allows the SROs to be notified for both internal and external alerts. Additionally, the SROs can reverse alert the locations or escalate an internal alert, which will notify the external responder group as well.

Note: This option will only notify our responders for external alerts and NOT internal. You will not see these locations in E3 until there is an active alert, once there is an external alert at a location it will automatically loop you in and appear in E3.Also, this option does not allow first responders to send alerts to the location(s), but only receive them. If you would like to send alerts to a location, you need to be a member of the associated location(s).
